I want a unit to work in high temperatures. Can I still use an AlfaTronix unit?
If the ambient temperature is likely to be higher than that specified on our leaflet then look at the de-rating calculation. Our units will work in temperatures of up to 80°C if sufficiently de-rated.
To select the appropriate unit, de-rate linearly from the specified output current at 30°C to zero output at 80°C. This calculation is valid for either the intermittent output current or the continuous output current. For example, if you need a unit that will give 3 amps continuously at 55°C, proceed as follows:-
The difference between full output temperature (30°C) and no output temperature (80°C) is 50°C. The difference between the full output temperature and the required ambient temperature (55°C) is 25°C, conveniently half way between the two temperatures, so the unit will give out half the specified current at 55°C. So to deliver 3 amps continuously at 55°C you need to select a PV6s or PV6i, both of which are specified at 6 amps at 30°C.
