What's the difference between the CE Mark and the e mark?
The CE mark is required by the "cover all" EMC Directive 89/336/EEC which is now mandatory. This directive is designed to make sure that electronic products do not interfere with each others operation. It applies to all products that do not have their own specific EMC Directive. That last statement is important. All our products are CE marked.
The e mark is required by the Automotive Directive 95/54/EC which applies to vehicles classed as "highway" or "on the road" vehicles. Therefore these vehicles and their components do not have to comply with the general EMC Directive 89/336. All other vehicles ("non highway" or "off the road vehicles") and vessels do have to comply with 89/336.
The Automotive Directive 95/54/EC is now a mandatory requirement and all products installed on a vehicle now must have the 'e' mark. Alfatronix has had the e mark on relevant products since June 2000 and all products are CE marked.
