• How do I select the correct converter?
  First you must decide if you need an isolated converter or non isolated converter by determining what type of earth is used on the vehicles electrical system.
• How do I use the continuous and intermittent ratings?
  You need to match the load characteristics with the continuous and intermittent ratings of our converters.
• I can buy a 10 amp Citizen Band Radio converter unit for the cost of your 3amp unit, and it works for cellular.
  For cellular you only need 3 amps. CB manufacturers realise that CB radio users cannot talk and listen at the same time. So they have to use "overs". This means that the transmitter is only keyed up for short periods during conversation and then there are long periods of standby use.
• I need a linear converter but you don't make one!
  The main advantage of linear converters or "droppers" is that they are cheap to produce and require little equipment or expertise. Basically you can build them in a spare bedroom, we used to!
  
  
• I want a unit to work in high temperatures. Can I still use an AlfaTronix unit?
  If the ambient temperature is likely to be higher than that specified on our leaflet then look at the de-rating calculation. Our units will work in temperatures of up to 80°C if sufficiently de-rated.
• What's the difference between the CE Mark and the e mark?
  The CE mark is required by the "cover all" EMC Directive 89/336/EEC which is now mandatory. This directive is designed to make sure that electronic products do not interfere with each others operation. It applies to all products that do not have their own specific EMC Directive. That last statement is important. All our products are CE marked.
